UFFC Strategic Plan
by Mike Garvey, Chair UFFC Strategic Planning

As Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee for UFFC, I have taken a two phase process: I) gather the individual strategic plans from the three UFFC groups in year one and II) in year two, meld, to the extent possible, the individual strategic plans into a comprehensive UFFC Strategic Plan. I have asked the Vice Presidents of the three groups to provide their strategic plans.

Ultrasonics provided its Strategic Goals, which were discussed in the UltraCom Meeting of 24 May, 2014:

1) To engage the Technical Program Committee members in promoting their research expertise;
2) To expand the technical diversity of the Technical Program Committee members;
3) To strengthen the global presence of the IEEE UFFC Ultrasonics Group;
4) To promote and enhance student involvement within the IEEE Ultrasonics Group.

Ferroelectrics provided its Strategic Plan (as summarized by M. Garvey from the minutes of the FerroCom meeting of 15 May, 2014) as:

1) Stimulate greater symposium interest by travel and registration support for plenary speakers and registration waive for all invited speakers and several young professionals and industrial representatives’ attendance;
2) Enhance the outreach of Ferroelectrics by increasing the Distinguished Lecturer frequency to once annually;
3) Stimulate interest in ferroelectrics by a) increasing the number and monetary value of Ferroelectric-awards, b) initiating a young investigator workshop and c) making special issues of T-UFFC open access; d) documenting the history of the technology through a book or through oral and/or video history recordings.

Frequency Control provided its Strategic Plan as discussed in the Frequency Control Standing Committee meeting of 15 February, 2014:

1) continue to expand our international presence by further cultivate conferences outside the US. (e.g. in Europe with EFTF and in Asia);
2) continue to expand our technical diversity by, for example, a) emphasis on MEMS based time and frequency reference devices and b) non-traditional signal sources (e.g. RC and LC oscillators);
3) Strive to achieve more integration between the different areas within Frequency Control; stimulate better technical cross fertilization at conferences by, for example, having a common session with a paper from each frequency control group;
4) explore new conference formats.
