UFFC AdCom Meeting by Mike Garvey, UFFC Senior Past President The UFFC AdCom met at The Pennsylvania State University in State College, Pennsylvania on May 12, 2014. The meeting was attended by 43 people, including 12 Officers, 9 Elected Members and 22 others. A total of 8 people attended by WebEx. This was the first meeting in which the AdCom benefitted from the recently purchased UFFC audio visual equipment, including two Polycom speaker phones, a 3000 lumen projector and laptop computers. IEEE currently provides free WebEx access to IEEE Societies and Councils. As is customary at AdCom meetings, agenda items included reports from the President (Jian-yu Lu), the Secretary (Debra Coler) and the various Standing Committees of UFFC. The President reported that work is progressing to unify the UFFC login process, standardizing the Society to one logon identical to the Member's IEEE logon. He also reported on appointments made so far during 2014. Jian-yu introduced the new UFFC Administrative Assistant Jennifer Roland and outlined her responsibilities. He added that IEEE is in good financial health. Jim Miller, Awards Chair for Ultrasonics, presented information on the new Young Investigator and Hertz Awards. Steve Freear, Editor-in-Chief of the Transactions of the UFFC reported on process improvements to decrease the time from manuscript submission to publication. A topic of some discussion at the AdCom meeting was increase of Society exposure; options considered included broadening the Distinguished Lecturer program, and increasing student support at conferences. A variety of other business was conducted, including approval of chairpersons, budgets and venues for the upcoming UFFC conferences. The minutes of the May AdCom meeting will be available (at http://www.ieee-uffc.org/publications/ UFFC login required) after their approval at the September 4 meeting of AdCom.
