Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control by Steve Freear, Editor in Chief, Transactions UFFC-S ![]() ![]() The Editor-in-Chief has been reviewing practices from other publishers. This led to the implementation of bi-monthly emails relating to highly cited articles and an alternating bi-monthly email conveying interesting articles titled “editor’s selection”. These are also catalogued on the society webpage. The highly cited papers are selected according to the monthly weighted citations of papers published within the last 1.5 years. Citation reports from Web of Science (Thomson Reuters), Scopus (Elsevier) and Google Scholar divided by the number of months that a publication was available online is used to rank the papers. As the number of citations does not always reflect the quality of a publication, another email is distributed bi-monthly comprising the editor’s selection of interesting articles.
The Standing Committee of the Ultrasonics Group ("UltraCom") met on May 24 in Chicago, Illinois. There were six voting members present; nine non-voting attendees also attended.
The Ferroelectrics Standing Committee ("FerroCom") met on May 15, 2014; twenty six members were present as were three guests.
The May 19 meeting of the Frequency Control Standing Committee convened in Taipei, Taiwan with 13 attendees present and one remote participant. Final financial results for the 2013 Symposium were presented. An update on the 2014 Symposium, commencing the next day, were presented and discussed. Notably, this is the first IFCS at which the pre-symposium Proceedings were completed; the process worked very well, including use of Crosscheck for detection of plagiarism. Some refinement is required to address very short papers, essentially little more than abstracts.
UFFC Strategic Plan
by Mike Garvey, Chair UFFC Strategic Planning ![]()
As Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee for UFFC, I have taken a two phase process: I) gather the individual strategic plans from the three UFFC groups in year one and II) in year two, meld, to the extent possible, the individual strategic plans into a comprehensive UFFC Strategic Plan. I have asked the Vice Presidents of the three groups to provide their strategic plans.

The task of nominating a Senior Member for Fellow grade got easier with the new Fellow On-line System. Multiple upgrades were incorporated, but three main enhancements will please nominators. After a nominator logs in the system, the first requirement will be to input the nominee’s member number. Entering this information will immediately let the nominator know if the nominee meets the requirements of being an active IEEE Senior or Life Senior Member and if the nominee has been a member in good standing for five years or more. If a nominee is ineligible, the system will prevent the nominator from filling out the entire form and avoid any unnecessary time.
