Awards and recognitions were presented during the opening session of the conference (July 21).

The 2013 Achievement Award
The Achievement Award is the highest Society-wide award presented to a member in special recognition of outstanding contributions. Selection criteria include significant technical publications in the field of ultrasonics, ferroelectrics, or frequency control, as well as contributions to these technical fields, and service to the Society.
     The achievement award was made to Chen S. Tsai, University of California, Irvine CA, USA for pioneering contributions to the science and technology of integrated acousto-optics, ultrasonic monodisperse micro droplet generation, acoustic microscopy, and guided-wave magneto-optics.

The 2013 Distinguished Service Award
The Distinguished Service Award recognizes long-term support of the Society's activities. Recognition is given to those who innovate new Society programs, administer major Committees, manage Society functions, or promote the Society's areas of technical interest to the larger community.
     The distinguished service award was awarded to Michael Driscoll.

The 2013-2014 Distinguished Lecturer Award
The Distinguished Lecturer represents the UFFC Society by giving lecturers worldwide to the larger technical community. The subject of the lecture must be of current interest and the lecturer must be a prominent contributor in the field of the lecture. The speaker is selected for speaking style, prominence in the topic, and willingness to commit significant time and energy to preparation, travel and lectures.
     The 2013-2014 Distinguished Lecturer award was presented to Takaaki Tsurumi.
