UFFC-S AdCom Meeting by Mike Garvey, Senior Past President The UFFC-S AdCom met on September 3, 2014, in Chicago, Illinois in conjunction with the 2014 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium. The meeting was attended by 45 people, including 12 Officers, 9 Elected Members and 24 others. Two people attended by WebEx. The UFFC-S President, Dr. Jian-yu Lu, provided a President's Report to the AdCom. Notable topics included: AdCom website: The AdCom continues to move to an on-line environment, with minutes, images and content being archived on the UFFC-S AdCom website. Single Sign On project: Members logging in to the UFFC-S Website now use their IEEE username and password, simplifying the use of this resource. UFFC-S 2015 Budget: the UFFC-S 2015 budget may increase significantly as a result of increased student travel support, addition of Distinguished Lecturers, an educational webinar initiative, and a onetime initiative by the History Committee. The AdCom voted to not consider another joint anniversary UFFC-S conference before the 70th anniversary in 2033. Sidney Lang, UFFC-S Web Editor-in-Chief, reported that the UFFC-S Website received more than 5,000 unique visitors per month during each of the 18 months ending July 2014. Sidney proposed a publicity video for the UFFC-S Website; he mentioned that the IEEE Dielectrics and Insulation Society has a nice video that might serve as a model for his initiative. AdCom approved an expenditure of $6,000 USD to support this effort. Jan Brown, Chair of the Awards Committee, lead a discussion regarding an increase in the number of Distinguished Lecturers to expand UFFC-S visibility in the global technical community. This topic had been opened at the May 2014 AdCom, but was tabled to a time when more information could be made available. The AdCom voted to increase the number of Distinguished Lecturers by one, beginning in 2015. Jim Miller, Elected Member and Chair of the Ultrasonics Awards Committee, lead a discussion and made a motion to make editorial changes to two Ultrasonics Awards. The proposed changes were approved by AdCom. Steven Freear, the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE TUFFC, reported that during this past year the average interval from first submission of a paper to final decision is down to 65 days from 80 days last year. Steve hopes to get to around 4 months from submission to online availability in TUFFC by the end of the 2014. AdCom voted to approve symposia items:
