Biographies : IEEE has a proud history of honoring the leading engineers of the time. We are pleased to provide biographies of 225 of those recipients, who have been honored with the IEEE Medal of Honor, IEEE Edison Medal, IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal or IEEE Founders Medal. In addition, we feature biographies for Black History Month (February), and Women's History Month (March). Oral Histories: Over 200 full-transcript Oral Histories, including abstracts and interviews with pioneering engineers are available online. Milestones : The IEEE established the Electrical Engineering Milestones program in 1983 to honor significant achievements in the history of electrical and electronics engineering. In 2000, the name of the program was changed to IEEE Milestones in Electrical Engineering and Computing, to make clear that achievements in all IEEE fields were eligible for recognition. Currently there are over 60 Milestones around the world. Bibliography : We are currently building a bibliography of historical publications. Center Publications : Since its inception in 1980, the Center has produced a number of publications, many of which are now available online, including the History Center Newsletter. More publications will be available on-line in 2004. Newsletters : The History Center publishes a newsletter three times a year. Historical Articles : This contains history of IEEE and electrical and computing technologies, along with some trivia, i.e., the History of the Pocket Protector. Lines and Waves: this booklet was prepared to accompany a traveling exhibit created by the Center to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of James Clerk Maxwell and of Michael Faraday's discovery of electr5omagnetic induction. Exhibits: The History Center prepares historic exhibits for view in the conference area of the IEEE Operations Center in Piscataway, NJ. ComSoc 50th Anniversary web site: In 2002 the IEEE Communications Society celebrated their 50th anniversary. To commemorate this event, the Center prepared a history of the technology and Society. Photographs : The History Center maintains a collection of over 5,000 historical photographs. |
