1. What are the system/software requirements to run the courses?
The minimum system requirements for supported platforms are listed below.

Windows 2000/NT/XP/2003

  • Internet connection 56K Dial up or faster
  • Internet Explorer 6.0
  • FireFox 1.5
  • Netscape 7.x or higher
  • Flash 7.0 or higher (Get Flash Player Now!)
  • Cookies, JavaScript, and Java Enabled
  • Processor - Pentium-class or higher
  • RAM - 128 MB
  • Display settings - 1024x768 at thousands of colors
  • 16 bit sound card
  • Mouse
  • Speaker or headphones
  • Adobe® Reader® 5.0 or higher (Install Now!)
  • Windows Media Player 9 or higher

Mac OS 9.0, OS X, and Above

  • Internet connection 56K Dial up or faster

2. How long does each course take?

Courses range from 1 to 2 hours.

 

3. Do I have to be connected to the Internet to take a Course?

Yes. The courses require a live connection to the host site to play correctly. You cannot download a course and run it later.

 

4. Do I need to have sound to take a course?

It is preferable to have sound since all of the courses use audio narration.

 

5. When I click on the IEEE Expert Now course title, the course won’t launch.

Check to make sure that you have disabled ‘Pop-up blockers’ from your system. Pop-up’s can be temporarily disabled for one-time viewing, or you can select ‘always allow’ to avoid this problem for future IEEE Expert Now course viewing. Consult your pop-up blocking software for disabling instructions.

 

6. What are Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and how can I earn them?

The CEU is a unit that measures a person's participation in a formal, non-credit continuing education program, such as a workshop, seminar, tutorial, or self-study course. IEEE maintains an official registry of all CEUs awarded. All one-hour IEEE Expert Now courses include a quiz, which upon successful completion makes you eligible to earn .3 CEU; .6 CEUs for two-hour courses.

 

7.  What are Professional Develoment Hours (PDHs)?

A Professional Development Hour (PDH) is a contact hour (nominal) of instruction or presentation. IEEE maintains an official registry of all PDHs awarded. All one-hour Expert Now IEEE courses include a quiz, which upon successful completion makes you eligible to earn 1 PDH; 2 PDHs for two-hour courses.

 

8.  If I stop in the middle and come back later, can I still complete the course?

Yes, you can return to the course and complete it in separate sittings.

 

9.  How do I navigate to a specific place in the course?

Use the MAP/Course Outline button in the lower left corner of the course screen to open the course chapter navigation.

 

10. How can individual IEEE Expert Now courses be purchased by IEEE Members?

IEEE members can now purchase individual courses from the IEEE Expert Now collection directly through the IEEE Xplore digital library. IEEE members can purchase each one-hour course for $69.95, with unlimited online access for 30-days from date of purchase.
