Accreditation - Engineering Program Evaluator Qualifications

of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET)

IEEE Program Evaluator Applicants must meet the ABET Requirements, (both the ABET Minimum Qualifications and Competency Model which appear on ABET's website) and the IEEE Qualifications below:

The nominee or applicant must:

1. be a senior member or fellow of the IEEE, excepting that members who have applied for senior membership may be approved for appointment as a program evaluator pending approval of their senior memberships;

2. have a minimum of ten (10) years experience in electrical engineering and/or computer engineering, with preference given to those with recent experience both in academe and industry and/or government;

3. have appropriate technical competence;

4. have current familiarity with and interest in education in electrical engineering and/or computer engineering in the United States;

5. have analytical ability, communication skills, and personal maturity commensurate with the requirements of an evaluator's assignments;

6. be sensitive to the needs and potentialities of women and minorities with respect to electrical engineering and computer engineering education and the associated professions;

7. have formal education to the Master's degree level or recognized distinction in the practice of electrical engineering and/or computer engineering;

8. have a stated willingness and ability to accept a five-year appointment as an evaluator and attend, without reimbursement of expenses by the IEEE Educational Activities Board (EAB), a training workshop sponsored by IEEE or the EAC of ABET;

9. have a stated willingness to conduct visits and all associated activities in accordance with the requirements, established by the EAC of ABET and the IEEE through the EAB, governing accreditation visits; and

10. in the case of an academic nominee/applicant, be associated with an EAC of ABET accredited engineering program or have had substantial involvement in such a program.
