IEEE Student Branch Web Site Contest

The IEEE Student Branch Web Site Contest is conducted by the IEEE Students Committee.  In 2008, the committee formerly known as the Student Activities Committee was renamed the Students Committee under the Member and Geographic Activities Department.  This committee overseas IEEE student programs and activities of IEEE Student Branches, this web site contest and IEEEXtreme, the 24 hour programming contest, are two examples of these programs.  Note new regional deadline is 15 April 2008!  Be creative and submit your web site.


Announcing the 2007 contest results

Congratulations!  The IEEE Student Activities Committee (SAC) is pleased to announce the Student Branches below for winning the 2007 Student Branch web site contest!  Over 120 Student Branches participated in their regional contests and the judges chose these as the top web site designs worldwide. The web site designs are for and by IEEE Student members.  

First place won a US $1,000 cash award, second place US $750 cash award, third place US $500, and seven received US $250 cash awards.  All Student Branches will receive customized certificates for their Branch and for the web masters.  There will be a contest in 2008 and we look forward to your creative and innovative web sites.  Check this web site for updates to the 2008 rules and details.  All past winners are included in the Hall of Fame.

General guidelines and eligibility

All IEEE Student Branches and Branch Chapters are eligible for the Web site contest. Each Student Branch may enter at most one Web site, regardless of the number of Branch Chapters present. To enter your Branch, simply send an e-mail message to your Regional Students Committee Chair (RSC), Regional Student Representative (RSR) and to the Contest Administrator with the subject "IEEE Student Branch Web Site Contest." Please include:

  • The URL of your Web site
  • The name of the Student Branch it belongs to
  • The IEEE Region you are in
  • The e-mail address of the Web site contact or administrator
  • Your name and e-mail address (if different from the administrator)

Also make sure that you follow the specific submission rules as outlined by your RSAC.

Judging is based on the six judging criteria outlined below. The sum of the point totals for the six categories will be 100 points. If required, tie-breaking will be at the discretion of the contest administrator using comments provided by the judges. All appeals and questions should be directed to the contest administrator. The decision of the contest administrator is final.

Each region will select a regional jury that will decide the regional winner(s) to be forwarded to the Students Committee for judging in the international contest. Based on the judging criteria, the Students Committee will give international awards as listed below,

First place - US$1,000.00
Second place - US$750.00
Third place - US$500.00
Runner-Up - US$250.00 each

A customized award certificate will also be provided.

Contest deadlines

I: Branches submit their URLs no later than 15 April 2008 to their Region. Some of the Regions may require you to submit your entries earlier. Please contact your RSC for exact date of entry for your region.

II: Each regional judging panel sends regional selections to the Students Committee judging panel in the finals based on the following formula:

A Region that has greater than 10 entries but less than 20 can submit 2 entries in the finals

A Region that has greater than 20 entries can submit 3 entries in the finals

Entries must be sent no later than 28 May 2008 to the contest administrator.

III: The Students Committee awards will be announced in June 2008.

IV: During the period of judging, no changes in the design will be permitted.

Judging criteria and contacts

The complete Rules and Guidelines ,that include the criteria judges will use to evaluate the web sites, are available for all Student Branches.  We look forward to your participation in your regional contests.  Winners of the 10 Regional contests will flow up to the International contest level.  

Please submit your entries to the RSCs and RSRs for your specific region.  Good luck and be creative!
