IEEE Member-Get-A-Member (MGM) Program - The Membership Benefit that Pays

Most members know how beneficial IEEE membership is in their professional lives and what it has meant to their technical and career development. No one knows the value of IEEE membership better than you, our members.

Have you considered sharing your experience with IEEE membership, and being rewarded?  Through the IEEE member-get-a-member program, the IEEE rewards your efforts in bringing new members to IEEE. Your local Section and IEEE region may also benefit–more on that later.

In return for your recruiting efforts, the MGM program offers incentives for each member recruited – which can be used toward 2009 IEEE dues, IEEE Society fees or the purchase of IEEE products and services.  During the 2009 membership year (1 September 2008 through 15 August 2009), IEEE’s MGM Program offers the following incentive schedule to members who recruit other individuals into IEEE membership.

Rules of the Program

  1. Only open to current IEEE members (Society affiliates, non-members and past members are not eligible
  2. Completed applications (either print or online), with full dues payment, must be submitted with the recruiter’s name and membership number in the proper recruiter box that is provided on the application.
  3. Applications received without recruiter’s membership number will be disqualified – there will be no retroactive qualifying of recruiters.
  4. The Member Get-A-Member program may not be combined with other membership incentive programs such as discounted Society conference membership promotions.
  5. Applications must be received at IEEE before 15 August 2009.

Professional members are not eligible to receive incentives for recruiting IEEE Students or IEEE Graduate Students. All amounts are quotes in US Dollars.

Recruiters will be notified of their incentives earned in October 2009. Incentives will be valid toward IEEE dues, IEEE Society fees, IEEE products and services. IEEE MGM incentives are not redeemable for cash and will expire on 31 December 2009.

Professional Members:

  • $15 for each Professional member recruited (Maximum Individual Earnings - $90.00)

Student Members:

  • $2 for each Student or Graduate Student member recruited (Maximum Individual Earnings - $90.00)
  • $15 for each Professional member recruited (Maximum Individual Earnings - $90.00)

Your local Section can also benefit by your participation in the MGM program.

Regional Awards:  The top five recruiters in each IEEE Geographic Region will earn membership development rewards for their Section, to help underwrite the Sections’ local programs and activities.  Within the Region, the following incentive will be rewarded to the recruiters' Section:

  •            First Place - $500.00
  •            Second Place - $400.00
  •            Third Place - $300.00

Overall IEEE Award:  The top recruiter in IEEE earns an additional $500 reward for his/her Section, and can attend an all-expenses-paid trip to the bi-annual IEEE Membership Development Retreat & Orientation, held at IEEE Headquarters in Piscataway, NJ, USA.

Or, at your option, the value of the incentive may be donated to the IEEE Foundation.  IEEE MGM incentives are not redeemable for cash and will expire on 31 December 2009.

MGM Recruiting Tips

  • Invite a prospective colleague/student to attend an IEEE Section/Chapter/Branch meeting to experience first-hand the professional benefits of IEEE membership.
  • Start a discussion about IEEE membership, emphasizing the benefits and value – be sure to provide a brochure and/or application information.
  • Keep issues of IEEE Spectrum, IEEE Potentials and IEEE Society publications on display to attract the eyes of potential new members.
  • Publish an article in your company or university publications explaining how IEEE helped you
  • Post announcements of IEEE meetings/conferences
  • *Welcome your company/university’s newly hired or enrolled individuals - use the opportunity to discuss IEEE.
  • When discussing membership to a prospect, listen for clues as to what they look for in a professional society.  Stress those member benefits that meet their needs.
  • Coordinate an event at your place of employment
